Why Jamaica?
Jamaica is known for its miles of sandy beaches and calm, turquoise waters. Looking beyond the resorts and tourism of the country, the poverty rate in Jamaica is still around 20%. Within the categories of health, education, and living standards, there are 10 key indicators of multidimensional poverty that include nutrition, child mortality, years of schooling, school attendance, cooking fuel, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, housing, & assets. If a person is experiencing deprivation in three or more of these areas, they are considered to be multidimensionally poor.
Worldwide, 72 million children of primary school age are not in school, 60% of those children are girls.
That's where LMF Summer Camp comes in! Our camp offers a space for education, creativity, leadership, and support while also providing campers with daily lunch and school supplies. But it doesn't stop there; we deliver physical donations of clothes, basic supplies, and hygiene products to help the campers' families as well as providing a Life Enhancement Course for Mothers and a Food for the Soul event each year.
our Programs
Our international programs are designed to be a catalyst that helps communities prosper by providing basic life necessities, promoting healthy and positive relations, and opening life-changing educational outlets.
All Lizzie Mae Foundation programs are developed with three core goals in mind:
Education & Outreach
Community Development
Support Services
LMF Summer Camp
A transformative experience for children and families, the LMF Summer Camp is a free 4-week program for children aged 5-14 years, designed to empower young minds and nurture personal growth. Our camp offers a balanced mix of literacy, leadership, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and creative arts, all within a supportive environment that fosters both education and creativity.
The LMF Summer Camp 2025 is committed to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where children can learn, grow, and discover their potential. We emphasize inclusivity and empowerment for every camper. Each day, children are engaged in structured programs that balance education, creativity, and leadership skills.
Words can't describe LMF Summer Camp so we'll let our Camp Experience Video speak for itself:
Learn More About Our Volunteer Experience!
Volunteer with us!
Lizzie Mae Foundation is a group of like minded individuals who believe in the power of love to transform.
We came together, stepped out of our comfort zones, and hosted LMF Summer Camp in Hanover, Jamaica in 2018 & 2019 where we taught over 75 children for two full weeks of pure excellence. The experience was life-changing and we can't wait to do it again with YOU! Our volunteers are the heart of our organization and make it possible for us to deliver our mission. We ensure that our volunteers share our worldview and aim to make the world a better place!
As an LMF Volunteer, you have time to get to know volunteers from around the world, teach and interact with the sweetest kids on earth, the opportunity to explore Jamacia, and SO MUCH MORE. Our volunteers pour so much love and attention into the LMF community no matter what project they are a part of and for that, we are forever grateful.
You can join us as a Local Volunteer if you are from Jamaica. Local Volunteers are the backbone of the LMF Summer Camp 2025, bringing invaluable knowledge of the community and culture to the camp's activities. Their contributions ensure that our programs are not only impactful but also relevant to the local traditions and values.
You can also join us as an International Volunteer if you hail from another country. International volunteers are essential to the Summer Camp, bringing global knowledge, expertise, and diverse perspectives that enrich the experience for campers. Their contributions expose children to new cultures and ideas, helping them develop a broader worldview.
Food For the Soul
Part of our mission we committed to in 2016 was to fight world hunger. What better way to do that by sharing a meal of soul food and handing out donations for the families and kids?
Our first Food for the Soul event took place in Philadelphia in February of 2017 serving 50+ children and families in the community. We regularly held Food for the Soul events around holidays and before kids went back to school where we were able to distribute physical donations as well.
Gratefully, we were able to expand Food for the Soul to our LMF Summer Camp community in 2020 where we held an amazing graduation celebration and shared a meal with the entire community.
Life Enhancement Course for Mothers
We mean it when we say we are fighting global poverty from every side!
We take a holistic approach to fighting global poverty by hosting a Life Enhancement Course for Mothers to enrich the lives of our campers' mothers and families. This special course during LMF Summer Camp is designed to provide the mothers of our campers with life skills and tools such as the power of self-love, affirmations, goal setting and planning, financial literacy, and MUCH MORE. Our goal in collaboration with The M.O.M Foundation is to give the women an influential starting point on their journey to their best selves!
Project rehab & Renovation
Project Rehab and Renovation is all about improving the conditions and restoring the structure at the Brownsville Primary School; our local campus site in Hanover, Jamaica.
Our team will be renovating the school site including: bathrooms, classrooms, enhancing the grounds, and so much more. By doing this physical work and labor, our mission is to evolve the school and instill a sense of pride and excitement in the students, staff, and community.
